August 11, 2020 - On August 6, 2020, the US announced that 10% tariffs would be imposed on imports of Canadian aluminum. In response to this, Canada has announced 10% surtaxes on imports of aluminum and aluminum-containing products from the U.S.
The Government of Canada has provided a list of the items that would be impacted by these 10% tariff countermeasures (see below) that will take effect by September 16, 2020, and remain in effect until the U.S. tariffs on Canadian aluminum are removed. For U.S. goods that are in transit to Canada on September 16, 2020, when the tariffs come into force, the tariffs will not apply.
